General Questions
What is ControlClaw?
ControlClaw is an AI-powered development environment for Shopify themes. It provides a cloud-based IDE with AI assistance, live preview, and task automation to streamline theme development.
Do I need coding experience?
Not necessarily. While coding knowledge helps, ControlClaw's AI can implement many changes from plain language descriptions. You can request features like "add a product carousel" or "change the header color to blue" without writing code yourself.
Which Shopify plans are supported?
ControlClaw works with all Shopify plans that have theme access, including Basic, Shopify, Advanced, and Plus.
Can I use ControlClaw with development stores?
Yes, ControlClaw works great with development stores. This is actually recommended for testing changes before applying them to live stores.
Account & Billing
How does the free trial work?
New accounts get a 14-day free trial with full access to all features. No credit card required to start.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit cards through Stripe. Enterprise customers can request invoice billing.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes, you can cancel your subscription at any time. You'll retain access until the end of your billing period.
Do you offer agency plans?
Yes, we offer agency plans with multi-store management, team collaboration, and volume pricing. Contact us for details.
Technical Questions
Where does my code run?
Your development environment runs in an isolated cloud sandbox powered by CodeSandbox. This means you don't need to install anything locally.
Are my theme files secure?
Yes. Each workspace runs in an isolated environment. Your code is encrypted at rest and in transit. We never share your code with third parties.
Does ControlClaw modify my live theme?
Only when you explicitly publish changes. During development, you work on a copy. Your live theme remains unchanged until you choose to deploy.
Can I use my own GitHub repository?
Yes, ControlClaw integrates with GitHub. You can connect your repository to track changes, create branches, and push commits.
What happens if my session disconnects?
Your changes are saved automatically. If your session disconnects, just reload the page to reconnect. Your workspace state is preserved.

What can the AI do?
The AI can:
- Read and understand your theme files
- Write and modify code
- Run terminal commands
- Answer questions about Shopify Liquid
- Implement features from descriptions
- Debug issues and suggest fixes
Is there a limit on AI usage?
Usage limits depend on your subscription plan. Pro plans include generous AI credits for most workflows. Enterprise plans offer unlimited usage.
Can the AI break my theme?
The AI makes changes in your development environment, not your live store. You can review all changes in the diff view before publishing. If something goes wrong, you can always revert.
Troubleshooting
My preview isn't updating
Try these steps:
- Save your file (Cmd/Ctrl + S)
- Refresh the preview panel
- Check the terminal for errors
- Clear browser cache if issues persist
I can't connect my store
Make sure you:
- Have owner or collaborator access to the store
- Haven't reached the maximum store limit on your plan
- Approved all requested permissions during OAuth
The AI isn't responding
Check that:
- You have remaining AI credits
- Your message is clear and specific
- The workspace is fully loaded
